Indianapolis Button Club Minutes December 3, 2011
The Club met at MCL for the Christmas Party with 17 present. Thanks to Peggy and Betty our hostesses, they gave bags of candy and a button pin.
Nancy reported $671.14 in treasury. $5 dues are now due. Nancy read a thank you card from Deann and the Thomas family for the flowers for Pete. Multi Media is out of business Nancy will look for a new place to buy cards
The monies from the raffle today will be sent to Fletcher Place. We made $68 today and will add to that from treasury to send them $150. 
Jan made a  motion to accept the slate of officers as stated.   Deann second.
Old Business; pertaining to location of Show. Sue suggested looking into the Knights of Columbus at 31 and Thompson Rd. There are lots of hotels and restaurants nearby.
Brian will do the Show favor button.
We signed up for next year programs and hostess.
We had a button exchange, show and tell of Christmas buttons and the big Christmas raffle.

Indianapolis Button Club Minutes Nov. 12, 2011
We met at MCL with 14 present.  In Nancy's absence Margaret reported we have $726 in treasury.  
Margaret reported the nominations of officers: President Sue Nadin, Vice Pres. Peggy Sapp, Treasurer Nancy Goldman with backup treasurer Margaret Schaller, and Secretary Barbara Lyons.   Motion accepted by Deann, 2nd by Jan Stimson. 
Margaret reported the 465 and Allisonville exit will be closed March-July.  Motion made to meet at MCL W 86th and Township Line Rd.  these months.
Margaret said the 2012 State Show is Palm Sunday weekend; someone will contact the dealers to see if this is a conflict.  There was talk about combining Illinois and Indiana Shows and to move to a different location with a different concept.  Since this is a State issue it will have to be decided at State level.  Sondra will check into prices at Embassy Suites. 
Reports on those not present:
Nancy is undergoing chemotherapy and not feeling well.
Sharon had double pneumonia and her mother-in-law had passed away in Phoenix. 
Pete Thomas, Deann's husband had feeding tube put in and is not doing well after his last surgery.   Keep all in your Prayers
Unrelated business, Brian had attended the Houston Quilt Market.  To make a long story short (ask Brian for the long version) he will be coming out with his own fabric line and will be appearing on The Quilt Show.com   doing a quilt cruise or two, teaching, etc....can't wait for the button fabric. 
Our Christmas Party is Dec. 3 (we meet the first Sat. in December) at MCL Castleton.  Bring button exchange and lots of raffle prizes.  Peggy and Betty are hostesses.

Indianapolis Button Club Minutes October 8, 2011
The Club met at MCL with 15 present. Thanks to Margaret our hostess. She handed out Halloween candy and eyeball bubbles. I tried to read minutes from Sept meeting, Nancy reported about $720 in treasury. She has plenty of cards and sleeves. She will have her surgery on Oct. 13.
I passed out my first edition of the Button Box.
Thanks to Brian and Kevin for planning our trip to Springfield, OH. Pennsylvania House has a fabulous button collection from Grace Porter. They also have many other antiques and artifacts. We then went to Season's Bistro. Good food and a great waitress. A good time was had by all. We then stopped at an antique mall where Carol arranged a button dealer to have lots of buttons to buy.
Brian reported that the IU School of Design and Fashion has a costume collection and also a button collection from Katherine Sage(per Pat W)we may be able to go see sometime next year.
It is time for new officers. Brian appointed Margaret and Pat Ward as the nominating committee. They will have the slate in Nov and we will vote in Dec. Kevin will remain our tour director.
Pat Cooper asked for suggestions of having workshops on Fri and Sat at the State Show. She will have a button craft on Sat. Instead of the cookies, there will be some kind of treat.
Margaret had the Program on Halloween. She told us how it started 2000 yrs ago and all the weird things and superstitions. We showed our Halloween cards. Nancy received 2 rhinestone buttons from Margaret, for winning the glitzy apparel contest.

Indianapolis Button Club Minutes Sept 10, 2011

The Club met at MCL with 19 present.  Carol opened the meeting.  Thanks to Pat Cooper our hostess. Happy Birthday to Deann, today.

Zelma Desch passed away on Aug. 24. Nancy sent flowers on behalf of Ipls Club and State Button Society. Nancy and Sue read notes of thanks from Zelma's daughters and husband.

Nancy reported $679.26 in treasury. Flowers for Zelma $63.

Deann was happy to be back on her birthday , her hip is coming along. She thanked all for cards and prayers.

There will be an additional award added to 2012 show list in memory of Zelma sponsored by IBC. It will be glitzy set in metal.

Pat Cooper had the program on overall buttons. She had found her Aunt Gladus's report on them and added to it. Very informative and interesting, she had many examples as well as members brought some. It inspired us to get home and check out our buttons. She wore her overalls and told us about Levi's and overalls history.

Margaret's program in October at MCL will be Halloween buttons and there will be a glitzy apparel contest in memory of Zelma. So wear your glitz in October.

Field trip to Springfield, Ohio Sept 22.

Indiana State Board Meeting held July 9, 2011

The board met at the picnic.   Members present, Margaret Schaller, Pat Cooper, Julia Hickman and Barbara Lyons, sec. 

The new Editor of the Button Box is Barbara Lyons.  She needs articles to put in the Newsletter.  Please send to:   barbara-lyons@att.net

We discussed the expenses of the 2011 show.  Julia paid the hotel bill of $ 4261.84, which was higher than last year.

There will be no cookies next year. 

We discussed paying the Show Chair room for 3 nights.  We will remain only paying for Thursday night.   We cannot afford to pay for all 3 nights.  

We reinstated the prepay to President, Show Chairman, Treasurer and Editor  funds to be used for show related business.   Julia will come up with budget of how much can be spent.

We decided there is no point to have the President's reception.  We will do without next year.    The President will serve a dessert at the Program-State meeting. 

Election of officers will be next year and the nominating committee is Johnnie Campbell and Sandy Leeds. 

Everyone will be expected to help at the Show and not just shop   There will be signup sheets when check in.

Pat will still be in charge of the racks.

Indianapolis Button Club Minutes August 14, 2011

 

The Club met at MCL with 15 present. Thanks to Barbara(me) our hostess.

Pete Thomas, Deann,s husband had his leg amputated below the knee. He was reported in better spirits and doing good.

Sue was thanked for having the picnic. She refused to be reimbursed for her expenses.

Nancy reported $683.38 in treasury. Brian had the new club business cards for us to hand out, they were $19.12.

Kevin passed out info about the field trip to Penn. House Museum, 1311 W Main St. Springfield, Ohio on Sept 22. admission is $5. We are to be there at the museum 10a. Reservations for lunch at 1p at Seasons Bistro and Grille. We will get a count of those planning to go and those planning to lunch at Sept meeting.

Margaret reported on the Board meeting that was held at picnic. (I will post those minutes)

She retrieved $1030 that was overcharged by the Hotel from the show. We were still at a loss of $200 .

Jan reminded all to renew National dues by Oct 31.

Johnnie had the program on vegetable ivory and tagua nut. It was a very informative and interesting program. She had many buttons and great trinkets made from the nut. She had included a button in the hostess bags I made. She gave away a bracelet that Carol won.

Thanks to Jerry and Sue for having us at their house for our annual picnic. It was a great location and a fun time. And lots of good food. Sue has buttons in every room and we were impressed how organized they were, even if she didn't.

Indianapolis Button Club Minutes, June 11, 2011
The Club met at MCL with 15 present. Thanks to Jan our hostess. Brian opened the meeting. I read minutes from May. I read a Thank You note to the Club members from Deann, following her hip surgery. Nancy reported Deann is better, but still sore.
Nancy reported $618.38 in treasury.
Brian will order different business cards than last time.
The field trip to Pennsylvania House in Springfield, Ohio will be Sept 22. We are to be there at 10a. 15 have signed up so far.
Sharon said one change on 2012 awards list. Award 2 add no limit on realistics.
She wants the 2013 list before the end of the 2012 show, first we need a show theme.
Peggy has family issues on doing the Button Box, so I am now the Editor of the Button Box.
Everyone is to bring an article suitable for putting in the Button Box, to the Picnic at Sue's next month. If you have not signed up for picnic, call Sue.
 
Jan Stimson had the program on twinkles. She had many examples. Members also brought cards.

INDIANAPOLIS BUTTON CLUB MINUTES MAY 14, 2011
The Club met at MCL with 19 present. Brian opened the meeting. He apologized for Debra Kish's actions at the show. He thanked all for successful State Show. Pat Cooper did a great job. We disscussed that a SHow Chairman is still needed for 2013. Sondra Leeds volunteered to try and do the job..."maybe for life if she likes it".
It was recommended that State pay room and board for 3 days for show chair. This will be brought to the attention of the Board.
Peggy Sapp stepped up and volunteered to be Editor of the Button Box.
Sue thanked all for cards and calls.
Meeting changes: Jan will host the June meeting at MCL
Sue will have the picnic at her house July 9 ..there will be a button exchange, bring card table if selling. and a covered dish. Jerry will be grilling. She passed out flyers. RSVP to Sue Nadin.
Nancy reported $600.38 in treasury. She had talked to Deann, who is in rehab from hip replacement, may be home next week.
The road trip to button museum in Springfield may be in September. Sondra will send out postcards about time and day.
Brian will order more business cards to pass out.
Sheila told us about Satsuma buttons and had some examples.

Indianapolis Button Club Minutes of April 9, 2011
 
The club met at MCL with eight present. Carol opened the meeting.  Margaret reported $601.33 in treasury.  Minutes for March was not available for this meeting, will be read at next meeting.
 
There was no program Sheila Humphrey's and Don Mitchell were not present.  Sue Nadin made goodies bags for everyone at Sheila's request. 
 
Deann won't be able to have the May meeting, she is having hip surgery on April 26 at St Vincent in Carmel.  Sheila and Don are asked to do their program in May.
 
The award list for Show in 2012 was discussed and will be finalized.  There will be a new award for Breast Cancer Awareness.  The funds from this award will be donated to the Cancer Society.  No dollar amount has not been discussed at at this time.  The theme for the show will be something about realistics.  Deann will bring realistic buttons to sell at future meetings.

Next meeting May 14th at MCL Castleton.

INDIANAPOLIS BUTTON CLUB MINUTES MARCH 12, 2011
 
The Club met at MCL with 14 present. Thanks to Sondra our hostess. Brian opened the meeting. Nancy reported $586.33 in treasury. I read minutes from February.
 
OLD BUSINESS: Kevin is working on the date for the trip to Ohio. He will contact us.
 
STATE SHOW BUSINESS; There are 21 dealers this year. THE THEME FOR THE 2012 SHOW IS "LET'S GET REAL WITH BUTTONS" Give new award request to Sharon or Sue Nadin. If no editor is found for Button Box the list of awards will be sent to all members. The class on award 16 is wrong(sorry, didn't get what it was, there will be a notice at the show) Award 3 does need to be labeled, but may be a judgement call at show.(to be safe label) Sharon will revise the tray slips and sign in sheets for next year. Cynthia made 3 big signs for lobby and elsewhere. Cynthia suggested we have a designated photographer at show, Deann volunteered her son, Paul. I asked members to bring raffle prizes to show since Pat and Margaret were not present. Sharon had printed the programs etc and made new signs for dealers.
New Business: Due to Allisonville being closed at 465 exit we discussed a different meeting place for a few months. Nothing was finalized. There are other ways to get to MCL. If you have a centralized meeting place check into it. More discussion to follow.
Peggy suggested we work on competition trays at Club. This will be a good way to learn. Others agreed. Deann suggested we work on trays for National as a club so we can represent Indiana at National. National this year is in Michigan, it was suggested we carpool , anyone interested??? This will be discussed more. Sue suggested we meet with other clubs in Indiana. They have been invited to the picnic, but not too many show up.
Brian said he appreciated the members stepping up to do new jobs.
Sondra had the program on buckles and clasps.  She had many good examples. Thanks Sondra.

Indianapolis Button Club Minutes February 12, 2011
 
The Club met at MCL with 20 present. Thanks to Pat Ward our hostess.
Carol opened the meeting. I read minutes from January. Nancy reported $561.33 in treasury. She has new colored cards 70 cents each. White cards 50 cents.
Pat Cooper report on State Show: Make reservations for Hotel and breakfast banquet. Make a hat for the challenge. She had one person call to make a centerpiece. Several of us volunteered to make one. There are 20 dealers with 47 tables rented. There will be sign up for raffle and reservation tables. Sharon has worked on a book of guidelines with all the duties and forms for the State Show. The by-laws still need to be revised.
Cynthia had notices made for members to put up in libraries, antique shops, knit shops, quilt stores, etc. PSA will be on radio stations and newspapers, Columbus website.
Beth Kern's sister died. Debbie Craig suffered a mild stroke and is in rehab. Pete Thomas is not doing well. Shirley Shaw, 97 passed away last week in Ohio.
Pat Ward had the program on handmade Dorset thread buttons, and Alan and Edith Brooks hand painted buttons. She had many good examples with help from Deann's collection.

Indianapolis Button Club Minutes Jan. 8, 2011
 
The Club met at MCL with 18 present. Thanks to Carol for being hostess. She had filled envelopes with candy and a pearl button and info about pearls on outside.
Nancy reported $613.58 in treasury. She received thank you note from Hollis Adams Foundation. Pay dues if have not done so. $5
Old Bus. Per Brian, Deborah Kish thanks all for coming to her home to buy buttons She wants a table at our Show.
Sue questioned what was happening with identifying IMA button collection. Deann has the pictures she has been working on but some pictures are very bad. Brian will talk with Petra at IMA to see if some members can go to Museum to identify them.
New Bus: Deann passed out the new Button Box. Thanks to her and Jan for a great job. They will no longer be the editors. An editor is needed for the Button Box. Need at least 2 people. try to find editor from other State members It was suggested to put it on internet.
Cynthia is doing window at Hotel, she is making tea food. The Showroom is full with dealers per Sharon.
Kevin will bring computer next month to explain how to use the blog.
Kevin had sign up sheet to go to Pennsylvania House in Springfield to see private viewing of Grace Porters buttons. There are 3 dates, March, April and May. Date will be decided when everyone contacted. Kevin will let us know of date. We will carpool.
Pete Thomas is not doing well. Sue talked with Beth Kern, she doesn't get out in cold.
Thanks to Sharon for our 2011 Ipls Club Program Books.
Pat Cooper had the program on "Carol's Big Book of Buttons." Pat won Carol's tablecloth she had made with all kinds of button info and pictures when she was a Hostess. Pat made it into a Big Book and added interactive button pictures. Good use of recycling and creative use of tablecloth. Great Program, too.
